Discovery of electrons : ( Easy learning ) :

This video tells that how electrons were discovered . Many scientists played their role but J.J Thompson was the person who identified that electrons are the fundamental particle of atoms . He used gas discharge tube which had cathode and anode as negative and positive electrodes respectively . It has gas at very low pressure and was connected to a high voltage source . The gas was discharged at very low pressure and very high voltage was applied and some glow was observed behind the anode o the screen covered with some fluorescent material. He observed some properties of the rays travelling from cathode to anode . In the magnetic and electric field the rays were deflected in a manner showing the negative nature of these rays . Despite of the gas used in the tube the cathode rays were always the same . So J.J Thompson concluded that these rays consist of negative particles which he termed as electrons and these are the fundamental particles of the atoms .
