Ingredients
Chicken: 500g, cut into pieces
Yogurt: 1 cup
Onions: 2 large, finely sliced
Tomatoes: 2 medium, pureed
Ginger-Garlic Paste: 2 tablespoons
Green Chilies: 2-3, slit
Garam Masala: 1 teaspoon
Cumin Powder: 1 teaspoon
Coriander Powder: 1 teaspoon
Turmeric Powder: ½ teaspoon
Red Chili Powder: 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
Fresh Cream: ½ cup
Cilantro: for garnish
Cooking Oil: 4 tablespoons
Salt: to taste
Lemon Juice: 1 tablespoon
Instructions
Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, mix chicken pieces with yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
Cook Onions: In a handi (or heavy-bottomed pot), heat oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
Add Spices: Stir in the cumin, coriander, turmeric, and red chili powder. Cook for a minute until fragrant.
Cook Chicken: Add the marinated chicken and cook until it changes color. Stir in the tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
Simmer: Add green chilies and enough water to cover the chicken. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer until the chicken is tender.
Finish with Cream: Once the chicken is cooked, stir in the fresh cream and garam masala. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes.
Garnish: Serve hot, garnished with chopped cilantro.
