Maria was a spiritual pioneer who crisscrossed America preaching the Gospel, healing the sick and either strengthening or starting new churches. She was a voice and champion for women in ministry, made a powerful stand against slavery and sought out the poor and disadvantaged. Maria was used as a modern John the Baptist heralding the coming of the 20th century Pentecostal Movement.
Maria Etter traveled across America, turning it upside down with powerful demonstrations of the Holy Spirit. Using just a tent and her voice and trusting the Holy Spirit, she drew huge crowds and saw revivals throughout the nation. Her ministry lasted for over forty years (1880-1924). As one journalist put it…
“By some supernatural power she just knocks them silly when they are not looking for it, and while they are down she applies the hydraulic pressure and pumps the grace of God into them by the bucketful.”
