The mountainous region of Okutama and Hinohara lies in western Tokyo and can be conveniently accessed from central Tokyo by train in two hours or less. Okutama and Hinohara is by no means the metropolitan, bustling city commonly associated with the name Tokyo.
Nestled in the western mountains of Tokyo, Okutama and Hinohara Village offer a rare blend of tranquility and untouched beauty.
Each season highlights a different side of their untouched scenery:
spring arrives with bright mountain blossoms, summer brings crystal-clear streams and fireflies dance, autumn paints the valleys in vibrant reds and golds, and winter wraps the peaks in a quiet, shimmering stillness.
These photos invite you to step into the rhythm of the seasons — to feel the cool air of the woods, hear the rush of waterfalls, and discover the gentle charm of Japan’s last remaining villages within Tokyo.
