Johnny Griffin, a legendary jazz saxophonist, was born on April 24, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, and passed away on July 25, 2008. Known for his blistering speed and technical prowess on the saxophone, Griffin made significant contributions to bebop and hard bop music. He began his career with Lionel Hampton's band in the 1940s and later played with Art Blakey, Thelonious Monk, and many other jazz greats.
