In this talk, we demonstrate the concept of specification-driven design methodology that covers all aspects of layout and simulation in one coherent flow. We illustrate with an example of Silicon Photonics MZI lattice filter design, which finds its application as WDM multiplexer/demultiplexer in transceivers, for example.
MORE DETAILS:
Material and physical-level knowledge is inevitable in an accurate design process. The trade-offs between the specifications are dominated by the physics at the lowest levels. Therefore photonics circuit design nowadays is largely a bottom-up effort, starting from component-level simulation and layout, and assembling it into a larger module or system. A very efficient way to bridge this gap efficiently is automation throughout design stages. With the IPKISS design framework, we automate the design flow from component simulation and layout, all the way to system level simulation and layout in a fully parametric way. Therefore it enables a top-down-like, or specification-driven design methodology.
