Transitional justice in Zimbabwe is an important topic, especially in the aftermath of conflict and political violence. However, women in the country who often endure most of the conflict or repressive rule are usually overlooked or minimally engaged in transitional justice processes or post-conflict peacebuilding discussions. By overlooking gender dimensions in its transitional justice processes, the government limits its prospects for achieving holistic sustainable peace and reconciliation.
Ms. Nontando Ndhlovu will discuss the establishment of a transitional justice framework in Zimbabwe and reiterate the urgent need to include women’s voices in reconciliation and peacebuilding processes. Drawing on lessons from transitional justice processes in Columbia and Liberia, the conversation will propose policy recommendations to amplify women’s voices in advancing sustainable peace in Zimbabwe.
