The oiran are often confused with Geisha but the Oiran are actually the women of the night that were common in the 17-18th centuries until it was outlawed after WWII. Oiran (花魁) is a collective term for the highest-ranking courtesans in Japanese history, who were considered to be above common prostitutes. During that era a daily procession would be seen on the streets of Yoshiwara near Asakusa where the oiran and some guards would parade down the streets as a form of advertising. Nowadays the parade is recreated by a group of locals who you would believe are the real thing if you didn't know otherwise.

NIKKO EDO WONDERLAND it's really an amazing place to visit and for me the highlight is to watch this show!! However they do not have it everyday it is limited to weekends in specific months so you have to check online to make sure they have it when you go.
