The Borderland Historic District was the 1,200-acre estate of Oakes and Blanche Ames; of the wealthy Massachusetts family that owned the Ames Shovel Company.
The Ames Mansion served as the primary filming location for the opulent Thrombey estate in the movie Knives Out, providing the gothic, cluttered atmosphere for scenes with Detective Blanc and the dysfunctional family, especially the famous library. The mansion's unique historic character, full of dolls and curiosities, perfectly matched director Rian Johnson's vision for the mystery novelist's home.
