Peter Warlock was a notorious figure in early twentieth century British musical life who led an eccentric life at the fringes of the establishment. He was an immensly gifted musician with a strong interest in early music and his arrangements and appropriations have earned him his considerable reputation. In this case the music was composed by him to accompany the words of a fifteenth century carol and Nikki Iles has taken his choral piece a stage further with this jazz version in the style of the recently deceased English jazz pianist John Taylor (credited at the end of the sheet music).
It is taken from 'Jazz on a Winter's Night Volume 2' (OUP, 2017).
