The big scale jets always draw a crowd as did this beautiful F-86 Sabre. Now the F-86 was our first swept-wing fighter used in the Korean War against the Mig-15 also shown in this video. They were virtually an even dog-fight match where American pilots training prevailed.
Now as the story goes: "The F-86 in combat in critical fuel situations, would go to 35,000 feet and shut down the engine and glide back home, re-starting over home base just before landing and running completely out of fuel". It's roll rate was said to be fantastic, and it must also be a "good glider".
It was indeed a challenge for new F-86 pilot trainees at Nellis AFB, after finishing flight school in a piston engine AT-6 trainer, with a high aspect ratio wing having quick piston engine throttle response that could be quickly used when flying in those pre-stall low airspeed moments; now flying a swept wing F-86 that's moves at faster airspeeds (600 mph) now flying with slow jet engine throttle response compared to the piston engines they initially flight trained with; and, they were given "an additional 15 hours" of F-86 flight simulator training. Good Luck!
