In this video I do a visual demonstration of the instructions written on the post on how to change Japanese language on a GM1 to English
NOTE: The only differences that remain is the 'ROM BACKUP' and the yellow triangle with exclamation point every time you turn it off, those remain.

From the comments on the post, it seems like this can be done on other cameras as well. I don't have other camera models so can't test it. Do with that info what you will. Good luck.
