We live in a time when the majority of us experience oppression because of who we are. As women, because of our race, class, caste, disability, being LGBTQ+ and especially trans. Reeta Loi explores the ‘why’—are they oppressing us because we’re different, or is it because we are powerful? In this healing TEDxLondonWomen talk, Reeta takes us on a journey that starts with the queer history of pre-colonial India, and ends with embracing otherness as a Superpower. From British legislation that criminalised homosexuality to arranged marriage and loss of family and culture, Reeta’s liberating story is something everyone should hear. This talk features a soundscape produced by Jeia and a special performance of Reeta’s latest song ‘Remedy’ with Gnarly.
