The story of Khait Parvat revolves around the local belief that it is a "land of fairies," or Aanchri, who are said to reside on its nine ridges. The most popular tale is of Jeetu Bagdwal, a shepherd whose flute music enchanted the fairies so much that they took him to their hidden world, and he was never seen again. According to the lore, these fairies dislike loud noises and bright colors, leading to local customs of avoiding them to not upset the spirits.
