Poilievre demands pipeline approvals, condemns “pathetic” Carney for not stating his position

During question period in the House of Commons Tuesday, Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre repeatedly drilled Prime Minister Mark Carney, demanding approvals for a new pipeline in Canada.

“On Thursday, [Carney] will make one of his grand announcements, waving around a meaningless so-called Memorandum of Understanding,” Poilievre said. “If it's anything other than a public relations ploy, why won't he say on what date will construction begin on a pipeline from Alberta to the Pacific?” the opposition leader added.

Though Carney did not state his position on approving a pipeline, he responded once, before letting other MPs fire back at Poilievre. “Sometimes the question reveals everything,” Carney quipped before taking his seat for the remainder of the session.

Poilievre called this move “pathetic,” claiming that the Liberal leader was “afraid to defend the fact that, on Thursday, he will not sign on to a new pipeline” but “will sign on to a public relations stunt.”

“What does it take to get a pipeline approved by this prime minister? Does it have to be a Brookfield pipeline?” Poilievre joked – referring to the company Carney worked for before running for Liberal leadership in January.
