One year behind the scenes of the United Nations, through the guidance of the controversial ex president of UN’s General Assembly, Miguel D’Escoto: a priest, a Marxist, a politician. In this order.
D’Escoto’s uncommon leadership over the General Assembly forced the diplomatic community to react in favour or against his firm positions on matters like the economic crises, the question of Palestine, the approach to ecology and global warming, the coup d’état in Honduras, the reform of the Security Council and more.
We followed Miguel D’Escoto’s attempt at promoting radical reform for the entire year of his presidency, observing the interactions between member states, the diplomatic strategies, the closed meetings and the encounters with some of the most discussed and controversial protagonists of the global politics today. With observational scenes, interviews and montage clips, The Troublemaker will unveil the inner proceedings and logics of the United Nations, in times of geopolitical change and acute international crisis, as seen by a peculiar point of view: the office of the most controversial president the UN ever had.
