A busy level crossing located next to Petersfield Railway Station, one of the more major stations on the Portsmouth Direct Line, in the town of Petersfield within the South Downs. There were three loud alarms, six LED wigwags (road traffic lights), and four rather tired-seeming barriers in operation here, all controlled from the adjacent signal box at the time of filming. Whilst the signal box still remains, the crossing was fully-renewed in March 2024, and is very different set-up wise compared to here though very thankfully not unrecognisable or without charm. Hope you enjoy this surprise un-released footage of the pre-renewal crossing!

This video features a couple of lowerings filmed at the start of the evening peak around 5PM, which in my experience is not the ideal time of the day to typically visit busier level crossings like this one, in part due to it being about as busy as it gets typically, although you could say it was rather worth it this time as I managed to catch a Network Rail Class 153 'Sprinter' on a test/inspection train rocketing towards Guildford! To be honest, they can keep these un-air-conditioned, single carriage sprinters, especially on hotter days like this / on busier routes!
