In this video, I take a look at the Logitech Slim Combo and I pit it against the new Logitech Combo Touch for the iPad Air or iPad Pro 10.5.

The Combo Touch
Design:
The new Comb Touch has a nice minimal design language. The light grey color is very pleasing to look at and the fabric-like material that is found all over the case feels great to the touch. My only complaint is wishing they had other color choices as I prefer the darker shades of grey, but that’s just personal preference. The Combo touch feels great thanks to this fabric-like material, I am just not sure how it will hold up over time. The iPad is totally covered with this 2 piece design once it’s in together. The cut out for the ports is very precise and I haven’t had an issue, including the headphone jack. The one thing I need to point out since the entire sides of this device is covered I don’t really like the feel of the volume up and down.
Trackpad:
The biggest and most obvious addition to this new case and why it’s so important is that new trackpad. The trackpad is made of glass and has a dive board mechanism, with this the clicks are very tactile and feel great, although I personally like using the trackpads with the tap to touch-enabled. I’m happy to report that you can do this in iPadOS. With the integration of gestures and native support of Bluetooth mice and trackpad support baked in.
Keyboard:
With this new edition of the trackpad, Logitech needed to squeeze the section for the keyboard, making the keys feel a little more cramped compared to the older Slim Combo. Despite the keys feeling smaller I personally feel like the typing experience is still good and I got used to the smaller keys as they have a very good layout. The key travel is decent and still feels better than the Apple butterfly keyboard or Apple’s own Smart Folio. The keyboard is backlit and although it isn’t the brightest lit keyboard I have seen I am happy that they have included it once again with this keyboard cover. Overall I feel like this keyboard is great and it works really well for typing out letters, emails, and scripts as I am doing right now.
The Slim Combo
Design:
The slim combo has a very basic look with the plastic back and some fabric-like material in the front. I am glad it was black it made the case look very stealth and it helped the overall aesthetic. Despite being called the slim combo it isn’t very slim thanks to the gap that this case has from the screen and the keyboard. I believe at the time this case was considered “slim” since not all keyboard cases from other manufacturers were very slim. But I think that by today’s standards this is a bit bulky. The thing I dislike most about the design is that the keyboard part does not sit flush with this case, or is designed to stay that way. Unlike the new Combo touch keyboard wherein the top part feels like it really closes into the tablet and feels like one solid piece. It’s hard to explain but if you own the slim combo you know what I mean.
The keyboard aspect of this case is great, it was laid out well and the keys feel good to type on. You get very good key travel and more space to type compared to the Combo Touch keyboard. The keys are backlit as well and at the time this was great because Apple’s own keyboard case didn’t have any backlighting. This keyboard also had the media shortcut buttons which are appreciated as Logitech did their best to mimic the apple media shortcuts on the MacBooks.
Overall this was an excellent keyboard case as the kickstand was great and the case has held up over the years of using it every day. At the time this was the de facto keyboard case to go for if you had the iPad Pro or the iPad Air.
