Socotra 🇾🇪 The Untold Story of a Forgotten Island

Imagine a place where nature feels like it’s been lifted straight from the pages of an ancient fairytale—where the landscapes look like something out of a science fiction movie.

This is Socotra—an island lost in the Indian Ocean, near the eastern mouth of the Gulf of Aden, about 250 kilometers from Somalia and 350 kilometers south of the Arabian Peninsula.

But Socotra isn’t just an island—it’s a unique archipelago made up of the main island and several smaller ones. It’s world-renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity: around 37% of its 825 plant species are endemic, meaning they exist nowhere else on Earth.

Socotra is a living reminder of how beautiful, wild, and diverse our planet can be. It’s a place where nature and culture are woven together in a way that feels almost sacred—something truly worth protecting.

I spent a full week on this incredible island—without the usual comforts, living in tents, sleeping under the open sky, and pushing through tough weather conditions. It was challenging, both physically and mentally.
But the perspective I gained by the end of this journey... I never saw it coming.
