48 HOURS IN PHUKET | THAILAND VLOG | Big Buddha Statue & Why we left early...

Hi Everyone and welcome back to another travel vlog!

We had a bumpy time during this part of our trip... It was peak season in Phuket so prices were through the roof and we could only manage to find one decent looking hotel/guest house that was within our budget. We both immediately sensed a weird vibe when we checked in - kind of a tense atmosphere as if something was about to happen so for some reason we didn't feel too safe. We put that to the back of our mind and went out to arrange a new scooter for the week and see our new area. As we drove round, we saw a couple of nice coffee spots, but also a lot of weed shops and cafes, and a sea of suspicious looking massage parlours. This was not mine and Alex's vibe whatsoever, and we found ourselves not sure what to do since the weather was almost non-stop rain.

We visited the Big Buddha statue which was definitely a highlight, but it wasn't so peaceful with maintenance work being conducted. There were also monks walking around on smartphones which we didn't expect to see, and elephants shackled to the ground on the drive up to the Big Buddha statue which upset us to see first hand. Given that, plus the bad weather meaning we could't go the beach, and feeling very unsafe in our accommodation we quickly decided Phuket wasn't the place for us and moved onto PhiPhi as we were nearing the end of our travels.

This definitely isn't a reflection of the whole of Phuket, it was just the snapshots we saw and personally didn't enjoy, but we were glad to have tried it out!
