If you’re looking for a challenging via ferrata (D) to escape the city buzz in Vienna for a day or for a weekend trip, then the Haidsteg (Preinerwand) is an excellent choice 🧗‍♀️. We spent the night up the famous Rax plateau at Karl-Ludwig-Haus at 1,804 m overlooking the plateau ✨🏡. ⁠

This is a moderate to difficult via ferrata close to Vienna. It can be easily accessed by public transport (1,5h from Bahnhof Meidling). The ferrata can be done as a daytrip (about 5 h) or you’ll spend the night up on top in one of the mountain cottages.
