Students with genuine, underlying language impairments have difficulty with information processing skills involving working memory. This 7-year old girl can repeat 3 digits back with 100% accuracy, but is unable to repeat 4 digits back in both English and her primary language of Spanish. She should be able to repeat 4-5 digits back with no problem. At this point, further evaluation is necessary to ascertain whether or not she has an underlying language impairment and needs special education services.
