Ebrietas is one of my least favourite bosses in Bloodborne... This has a lot to do with her being by far the most obnoxious boss to kill on BL4 NG+6 without taking damage. This is because during her second phase, she spawns an aura that inflicts chip damage if you're even slightly close to her. This basically means it is virtually impossible to kill Ebrietas without taking damage, unless you chain limb staggers to bypass her second phase completely. I was originally going to re-record my fight with Ebrietas to see if I could somehow defeat her without taking damage. Unfortunately for whatever reason, PSN decided to go down in the afternoon, so I couldn't even reload my backed up save file to re-attempt Ebrietas without wasting consumables... I ultimately decided to just upload this attempt to avoid screwing up my upload schedule for this week. It's just as well, since I can always just upload a follow-up video where I do actually avoid taking damage from the aura. Whether that actually happens is another story.
This is a fight that can either go by smoothly with good RNG, or it ends up being one of the most frustrating in the entire game. The safest way to get through Ebrietas's first phase is to bait out her head attacks specifically, which you can punish with both charged and transformation attacks respectively. You're always guaranteed a stagger if you primarily focus on her head. The most dangerous attack Ebrietas has is by far the forward charge attack, as it's a double hitbox. If you've gotten counter-hit while trying to dodge this move, it's likely because you avoided the head part correctly but not the tentacles part. Fun fact, the literal strat for this attack on a regular BL4 run is to just let it hit you, so that you won't get killed by counter-damage... Obviously, that strategy isn't going to cut it on BL4 NG+6, so I'll show you how to dodge it. The telegraph for the forward charge is when you see the mouth on Ebrietas's head open slightly. You have to sidestep to avoid her head, and then quickstep backwards to keep you out of the tentacles' hitbox altogther.
This isn't a technical phase transition, but Ebrietas does occasionally start shooting Frenzy blasts at you after reaching 75% health. Whenever she does her forward charge, it will now spew out Frenzy blasts as well but the way you dodge it doesn't change at all. Another noticeable difference is that Ebrietas will always float away to readjust her position after the forward charge ends.
Once Ebrietas reaches half health, she will place her head down for a few seconds before summoning the aura. You can go for a charged attack and some transformation attacks on her head, while backing away in time to avoid the aura. This is where things start to get rather crazy. Ebrietas will be constantly trying to rush towards you, making it very tricky to avoid coming into contact with the aura. Ebrietas's tentacle attacks last a lot longer in her second phase, so don't even try to punish them. Ebrietas also has a new dive attack, where she rushes at you and slams her head into the ground. Luckily, it's a lot less intimidating than it actually looks. The only other noteworthy attack Ebrietas has is her version of A Call Beyond, which is thankfully EONS easier to avoid than Micolash's version. It can be avoided the same way that the Celestial Emissary's magic could, only difference being that the Arcane projectiles come at you in sets of three this time around.
Ebrietas isn't really a boss I hold in high regard, despite her being one of the most difficult bosses in the base game of Bloodborne. I think she's a good example of how difficulty isn't always the answer to crafting an enjoyable experience, even in a Souls game. Nevertheless, I am ecstatic to say that for the next video, we will be going from one of my least favourite bosses to my favourite boss in Bloodborne! That of course, is the legendary big man himself, Gehrman the First Hunter.
