Watercolor Fog and Trees Tutorial for Beginners - Step by Step

In this video we will cover all of the basic techniques you need to know as a watercolor artist to paint fog, trees, sky, and water reflection. There are many different ways to accomplish painting these things using watercolor. This tutorial should inspire you to develop techniques that feel good to YOU!

I am using the art of Fredrick Sonno, whom I found on Instagram, for inspiration. His work looks simple and is eye-catching, which is what I love about it. He has mastered wet-on-wet techniques, which can be challenging. So, while it may look "easy", it can pose quite a challenge if you tend to overwork your watercolor or paint dark to light. As an artist, it's never a bad idea to study the work of another artist to see if you can replicate their techniques by coming up with your own approach.

These techniques take time and practice. So don't get discouraged if you feel like you're not accomplishing the look you're going for. In fact, there are moments in this video where I found that, if I had to do it over again, I would approach it in a different way.

For this reason, I am using a small pad of Hahnemühle paper so that I can approach this as more of a "study" rather than a finished piece. I encourage you to consider this approach because it may feel less intimidating.
