This video shows trains at Cultra station during rush hour, and although the station usually only sees half-hourly stopping services in each direction, during peak times express services can also be seen passing through the station. Cultra station is the least used station in County Down, and so even at rush hour there are not many passengers to be seen. Featuring in this video is the new footbridge at the station which was completed in March.
In the video, there are 2 types of passenger trains featured, these being the Translink N.I. Railways N.I.R. 3000 Class ('C3K') and N.I.R. 4000 Class ('C4K'). These are the only types of passenger train that can be found on the Bangor line. Only 3-car trains can serve Cultra station due to short platform lengths. Platform 1 at this station is actually the shortest platform out of all stations in Northern Ireland. Another interesting thing at this station is the disused station building which is now a private residence. Passengers can alight at this station to visit the Ulster Folk and Transport Museums.
Starting off the video, 3012 is seen departing platform 2 with the 17:30 departure of the 17:15 service from Lanyon Place to Bangor. This is one of a number of peak time services on the Bangor line that do not operate between Lanyon Place and Belfast Grand Central stations.
Straight afterwards, 3007 arrives at and departs platform 1 with the 17:32 departure of the 17:17 service from Bangor to Belfast Grand Central.
Then 3021 is seen passing platform 2 with the 17:20 service from Belfast Grand Central to Bangor.
And immediately after, 4011 blasts past platform 1 with the 17:34 service from Bangor to Lanyon Place. Trains passing platform 2 (northbound platform) at this station are generally slower than those passing platform 1 (southbound platform) and that is because the speed limit through platform 1 is higher than at platform 2.
Next up, 4012 (one of only 2 refurbished C4Ks at the time) is seen arriving at and departing platform 1 with the 17:52 departure of the 17:37 service from Bangor to Belfast Grand Central.
Then from the footbridge, 4010 is seen arriving at and departing platform 2 with the delayed 17:50 departure of the 17:35 service from Lanyon Place to Bangor.
3021 then shows up again, this time blasting through platform 1 with the 17:54 service from Bangor to Belfast Grand Central.
Then 3014 passes platform 2 working the 18:00 service from Belfast Grand Central to Bangor. This shot was filmed from under the shelter of some trees because there was a spitting of rain that was coming on and off a little.
Then 4010 is back, passing platform 1 at speed with the 18:14 service from Bangor to Lanyon Place.
4003 then passes platform 2 very slowly (with a tone that scared me!) working the 18:20 service from Belfast Grand Central to Bangor.
Finally, 4004 is seen arriving at and departing platform 2 with the 18:30 departure of the 18:15 service from Lanyon Place to Bangor.
So in summary, the D.M.U.s that I saw during my hour at Cultra station (some more than once) were: 3012, 3007, 3021, 4011, 4012, 4010, 3014, 4003 and 4004.
