As we all know, we need to pack the support out with four washers, to ensure sufficient clearance from the shaft retaining circlip. Without the washers, the support bracket binds on the shaft, causing the shifting action to be hard.
This modification eliminates the need for the washers and allows the support bracket to seat properly against the engine case.
