In this video I explain how uptempo kicks are really made, using two methods that producers use today. We start with the traditional approach, where a sine wave is distorted and shaped using an FX chain in FL Studio, and then compare it to a modern workflow where the entire kick is built inside Serum 2.

Everything starts from the same foundation. A simple sine bass. From there I show how movement, punch and crunch are created using EQ distortion, waveshaping and automation. You’ll see why the oscillator itself does not matter, and why the processing and movement are what actually define an uptempo kick.

After breaking down the classic kick chain, I rebuild the same idea fully inside Serum 2. I explain how to split punch and crunch, how LFOs can replace manual automation, and how distortion and compression inside the synth can give you full control over the kick without relying on a long FX chain.

This video is not about saying one method is better than the other. Both work. The goal is to understand the principles behind uptempo kicks so you can choose the workflow that fits your style and speed, whether that is traditional processing or a fully synth-based approach.
