We did a self organized day trip to this beautiful hiking trail from Porto at the end of June. If you have one day to spare from your holiday schedule, I highly recommend doing this hike! On the Paiva walkways webpage it says the distance is about 8km -taking in to account all the up and down climbing, our own distance measurement at the end of the trail was closer to 11km. Also, it says on the web page, that it takes about 2,5-3 hours to do this hike -that might be true if you want to do it just as an daily exercise routine but I highly recommend planning at least 4-5 hours so that you can take it slowly and enjoy the beautiful scenery. We did not see any taxis on either end of the trail so I recommend booking in advance your transportation there and back. We took a prebooked taxi which cost us about 240 euros. Compared to prices of organized tours, I think this was good value as it was a private transfer and the driver waited us at the other end of the trail.
