This is a lecture on Christopher Alexander’s design patterns, by Nikos
A. Salingaros, Professor of Mathematics and Architecture at The
University of Texas at San Antonio. Invited talk for the conference
(IN)FORMING PATTERNS, Future Urban Collectives Lab, Massachusetts
Institute of Technology and Bezalel Department of Architecture and
Urbanism, Jerusalem, 28 June 2021 — introduced by Rafi Segal,
Associate Professor of Architecture and Urbanism at MIT. Design
Patterns were first presented in the classic book "A Pattern Language"
(1977) and recently extended in Michael Mehaffy et al. "A New Pattern
Language for Growing Regions" (2020).
