Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy's Groot has been captured by the High Evolutionary, who intends to harvest his biological essence; also known as Isotope G, in order to save himself from evolutionary collapse!

Animating T’Challa/Star Lord was one of the best parts of this project because that figure is so beautiful and cooperative. I also really enjoyed animating an unscripted fight scene. Only the dialogue was scripted and once those essential plot points were filmed, I animated freely ‘til I was happy with the overall flow of the film!

Groot vocals were lifted from the GotG PS4 game.

This project includes 120 seconds of animation at 15fps. Took me about 6 days to animate (that’s about 20sec a day) and about the same to remove rigs and do all other post-production work.

Everything, except for 1 shot, was filmed practically. The only composited shots in the film was done because it featured 4 characters moving a lot. So I decided to film each character individually.

For animation references I filmed myself performing the dialogue and animated the figures to match my performance.
Any shot not including dialogue was animated freely without any reference. I’m particularly proud of High Evolutionary’s run and Groot’s rampage at the end.
