I'm doing this episode for Chinese Language Week. When we talk about Chinese, we are refering Chinese mandarin, but there are hundreds of dialects across China. They sound like different languages. Why Cantonese is widely used overseas? In English, changes in pitch only used to emphasize or express emotion, but Chinese tones give a different word meaning.
