Juan del Encina (or Enzina) is considered by some to be the father of modern Spanish drama. Indeed, even this very short villancico has a self-contained storyline, albeit somewhat lighthearted. The simple, monophonic piece can be found in the huge collection of late Spanish Medieval and early Renaissance music "El Cancionero Musical de Palacio."

I used the Synthesizer V program with the Natalie and Kevin voice banks to reproduce the original Spanish text. The instrumental sounds were created using Music Studio 2.0 (iPhone app). Reverb and echo were added with Audacity. The Spanish phonemes were slightly altered to simulate late 15th century pronunciation.

A los grandes brinquejones (The great leaps)
que daban en el portal, (That they gave in the doorway)
nos encontramos yo y Pascual (We met I and Pascual)
por medio de los garzones. (for the middle of the servers)
comimos pica-tostones (We ate pica-toasts)
y dieronnos a beber. (and they gave us drink)
