Joshua was commanded by God to be strong and very courageous . God was going to be with him as He had been with Moses therefore he had to be strong and very courageous.

He was challenged to banish all fear and walk fearlessly towards his promised inheritance to possess every inch of ground God had foreordained for him.
Although the blessing was his by promise, he was not going to receive it through spoon feeding but by rising up and claiming by fighting for it, stepping on it and grabbing it from the jaws of the enemy.

God is not creating cry babies but christian soldiers fit for spiritual combat.
