I made the 3.2 mile crossing of Hood Canal from Seabeck, WA to Fisherman Harbor on the Toandos Peninsula at zero tide. It prevented me from entering the harbor but it was not the primary goal.
The wind can be problematic on this large, deep body of water. 10 knots of wind can raise some fairly significant waves. However, this time it was not a issue.
The last time I made this crossing, I was 15 years-old in a 10 foot aluminum boat with a 7.5 hp motor. I made the crossing in street clothes and no life jacket. Fifty (plus) years later, I was better prepared and under my own power.
