Vast Vistas to Vulcan - Motorcycle Ride

This is a motorcycle rider viewpoint video of a leisurely afternoon ride from the foothills of the Rockies east across the South Albertan prairies. This ride was part of my South Alberta Roundup and was done on the 3rd of September 2025.

It was a smoky day with a LOT of bugs. I had just come south on Highway 22 out of Longview which was fun but not great footage. As a result, this video picks up with the lens all nice and cleaned off again on Highway 533 going east down to Nanton.

The foothills were very pretty and fun to ride. At Nanton I stopped for gas then carried on east on 533 across the plains. 533 turns north becoming 804 which I then turned off of onto 534 to continue east to Vulcan. I drove through Vulcan to arrive at the internationally renown Vulcan Starship Monument! (https://www.travelalberta.com/listing...)

Vulcan was a town that grew up after a spur of the Canadian Pacific Railway was built to open up the area. Originally, a surveyor named it for the Roman god of fire and smithery, but the town has since fully embraced its connection to Star Trek. It was quite the experience walking around the replica of the Constellation Class Starship that they built.

It was a little smoky with more than a few bugs, but what a picturesque trip coming down out of the foothills and across the vast prairie. It was almost as if I were on a trek…
