Over Labor Day weekend, I set out to repeat the “Fearsome Four” — Mount Elden, Kendrick Peak, O’Leary Peak, and Humphreys Peak. This was my third time completing the challenge, but with a new twist: instead of pushing to summit all four within 24 hours (like my first attempt), I spread the climbs over four consecutive mornings.
This approach gave me time to reflect, recover, and fully enjoy the beauty of Northern Arizona’s high country.
Peaks in Order:
Mount Elden – 9,301 ft | Flagstaff’s classic skyline hike
Kendrick Peak – 10,418 ft | Remote and scenic
O’Leary Peak – 8,916 ft | Forested fire lookout trail
Humphreys Peak – 12,633 ft | Arizona’s highest point
