Performance APIs and the performance timeline help gather metrics from the full lifecycle of a web application, and Core Web Vitals help report them. Many of these metrics are tied to characteristics specific to traditional navigation of documents. However, increasingly pages use JavaScript to circumvent the need for real navigations (e.g. Single Page Apps), and browsers are increasingly bending what a user-perceived navigation actually does (bf-cache, preload/prerender, portals, paint-previews...).
What exactly should we measure post-load? How do we reason about post-load metrics vs load equivalents? Should we try to fit these evolving patterns into the existing model, create new & distinct metrics, or evolve the abstractions entirely?
