Located in Watermans Cove, the Pier Pavilion is a vibrant communal space by the water for people to meet, gather and enjoy a variety of events.
In a testament to its exceptional design, the Pier Pavilion was selected from more than 170 entries in a prestigious 2020 national design competition. The winning design by architects Besley and Spresser celebrates the land, sky and sea that surrounds the site. The building is clad in custom oyster shell terrazzo, made with more than 450,000 recycled Sydney rock oysters and mixed with an Australian Marble chip, sand and cement. An impressive 18-metre double-sided permanent seating area provides space for people to relax and take in the harbour views.
Echoing the natural beauty of the surrounding headlands, the Pier Pavilion features a landscaped roof comprising of endemic plantings, sandstone boulders, and hollow logs, all supported by a folding Cross-Laminated Timber deck.
