Caterham 420R Build: Anti Roll Bar + Driveshafts + Rear Hub Part 1 (2025-08-05)

For the Anti-Roll bars, you'll have to get an orange rubber bushing over a 90 degree bend in order to get it to the right spot. Don't be afraid of breaking it. I got a screwdriver underneath it, all the way through, and pried it over the bend.

The driveshafts are sided. The packaging have them labeled. Make sure to pay attention to the label. I've found the 42mm nuts and the corresponding washers in a Z pack. The nuts are large with nylon in the middle. The passenger side one threads like normal. The driver's side one threads opposite... that is, counter-clockwise to tighten. I've been told this is so that the nut doesn't undo itself while the car is driving.

The manual is a bit confusing on the rear hubs, so this is what I did:

1. Apply silicon glue onto the DeDion tube.

2. Align the ear with the 4 bolts. Make sure it's aligned before it contacts the glue.
There are 3 pairs of bolts (for each side) for the ears.
The shortest go directly into the DeDion tube threading at the very rear side of the car.
The longest go through the middle of the ear
The medium length goes on the ear closest to the front of the car

3. Remove the rear-most (shortest) bolts, and apply copper slip
4. Tighten the rear-most just enough so the ear doesn't move.
5. Remove the other 2 pairs of bolts, to get them ready to slot through the bearing.
6. Apply bearing grease to the bearing, and push onto the driveshaft. May need a tap with a mallet.
7. Re-install the other 2 pairs of bolts after applying copper slip.
8. Nut + washer the middle pair of the bolts
9. Put the drop-link plate on the front-most pair of bolts, nut + washer on.
10. Torque all 6 bolts to 47Nm
11. Install droplinks (make sure the two ends face opposite directions)

I installed the droplinks onto the 3rd hole of the anti-roll bar, as displayed in the manual.

I started on the rest of the rear hubs (calipers but found out that my spacers are incorrect. More on this next time.
