For airlines, avoiding turbulence is part of improving the passenger experience. As the commercial air taxi industry develops, ride comfort will be an important factor to ensure that passengers regularly use the services. NASA is trying to help understand what passengers will – and will not – tolerate.
NASA is conducting a series of studies at NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California to understand how air taxi motion, vibration, and other factors affect passenger comfort. Data from the passenger tests is needed for guiding the design and operations of future air taxis, with a focus on passenger comfort.
This video includes footage from two series of studies - one with NASA pilots and one with NASA employee test subjects - to collect feedback.
