Labour has pledged again to modernise the process by which people can legally change gender.

The party said the existing gender recognition law was 'intrusive, degrading and unnecessary', but they would keep the requirement for a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, where people feel their gender does not match their biological sex.
In the face of criticism from some women's rights campaigners, Labour insisted its proposals could balance respect for trans people while protecting women's rights and spaces.
