The first of a few videos in which I take advantage of the t-slot fence on my Grizzly G0771Z table saw. Up first: the humble stop block.
A stop block on a table saw fence is really just a safety feature; you should never make a crosscut where the off-cut portion of your workpiece is pressed against the fence and the blade. That could cause kickback. Instead, use a stop block, which attaches to the fence. Push your workpiece over until it contacts the stop block, then make your crosscut. That way the edge of the off-cut piece isn’t touching the fence.
Most stop blocks are just pieces of wood clamped to the table saw fence. I didn’t want to use that method, for two reasons. First, I have a router fence on the other side of my table saw fence. Second, I want to be able to use the full bearing surface of the stop block, and not have the clamp in the way.
