Osaka has many nice walking courses.
This time, we will introduce Koyasan,
one of the attractive walking courses.
(Koyasan is located in Wakayama Prefecture,
but it is easily accessible from Osaka,
so we will introduce it on this channel.)
Koyasan is a sacred Buddhist site with a history of over 1,200 years.
Kobo Daishi Kukai founded it in 816.
Koyasan is home to 117 temples, 52 of which are lodgings.
In 803, Kukai traveled to Tang China as a monk studying abroad.
In Chang'an he was initiated into the mysteries of esoteric Buddhism.
After returning to Japan, he made significant contributions
in the fields of culture, education, and civil engineering.
The best time to see the autumn leaves is usually
from late October to early November.
