Walking with Pandas! 🐼 Chengdu Research Base Tour + Essential Tips for Families

Welcome to the home of the Giant Pandas! 🐼🇨🇳 On Day 8 of our China trip (December 20, 2025), we visited the world-famous Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.

If you are planning a trip to Chengdu with kids, this video shows you what to expect— navigating this massive park!

📅 Travel Date: December 20, 2025
☁️ Weather: A cool 11°C. It was perfect walking weather, but you definitely need a jacket as you'll be spending the whole morning outdoors.

1. Booking Tickets: Trip.com vs. Others 🎫 We booked our tickets via Trip.com and highly recommend it!

Why? It was completely fuss-free. We saw other travelers struggling with different apps, but our entry was smooth and instant.

Tip: Book in advance as daily slots can sell out!

2. The #1 Tip for Families: Buy the Shuttle Ticket! 🚌 This park is HUGE.

Don't try to walk it all: We highly recommend buying the electric buggy/shuttle service ticket (approx. ¥30 RMB or ~S$6 SGD).

Why? The distance between the Panda Nurseries and the Red Panda areas is very far. With young children, the shuttle saved our legs and let us see more pandas without the kids getting too tired.

3. The Animals 🎋

Giant Pandas: We saw them crunching on bamboo and lounging in the trees. (Tip: Arrive early in the morning when they are most active!)

Red Pandas: Do not skip the Red Panda area! Seeing these cute, raccoon-like pandas running freely around us was a highlight of the trip.
