2020 has been quite an unexpected year, but as we close out the year, I finally started to backup my computer, something I've been putting off for the last couple of years. With plenty of storage, I'm finally able to get back to putting together all the videos I've filmed over the last several months, including this trip to SEPTA's Paoli Thorndale line so I could explore the PRR signals after seeing the remaining PRR signals on the Norfolk Southern Pittsburgh line a little over a year ago.
I originally planned this trip before Covid and planned to take the train out in May or June, but instead we finally decided to head out in July, driving out on Wednesday, July 29th. These are among my favorite signals, and I wanted to get some good shots of the signals, so we stopped at Marion, Villanova, Radnor (both the NHSL and Septa station), and Paoli, where we were afforded pretty good shots. This was also my first real experience railfanning Septa, with the only other time I've been on Septa was on my birthday from Trenton to Philadelphia back in 2018. I ended up catching a lot of trains with a lot of very cool crew members and employees, especially at Merion, which definitely made my day, and I'm quite happy with the shots I got. I also decided to stop at the Radnor Norristown High Speed Line station for a change of scenery, and I also even got to see a engineer trainee test train a few times, which was pretty cool. The only thing I was a little disappointed about was not being able to see any push-pull sets, which I heard has been running on 9571, but unfortunately it didn't run, and I later found out that they only ran for about a week and a half after the new Septa schedules went into effect in the beginning of July. Still, I ended up having an amazing day here despite the heat, and while I'm sure many people prefer the Trenton line with high speed action on the Northeast Corridor, so many of the stations on this line are beautiful and the PRR signals are definitely a bonus, and I will definitely be back out here again one day.
Please enjoy and happy new years to everybody! Let's hope 2021 will be better.
