The numbers are in: Hawaiʻi food producers lost more than $3 million last year thanks to thieves and vandals.
That’s according to a new report from the state agriculture department, but a state senator thinks the real cost may be much higher. When consequences are relatively rare, farmers may not even bother reporting, said Sen. Tim Richards, a Big Island rancher.
Food producers are hopeful after the passage of a new bill on agricultural crime.
