Today we're looking at a pair of Soviet SSH-40 helmets recovered around the Bakhmut area of Ukraine. Both these helmets show extensive battle damage, and were worn by Wagner group convict soldiers during the extensive fighting there. The SSH-40 helmet was introduced during WWII and became the standard Soviet helmet until more modern versions like the SSH-60 and SSH-68 surpassed it. However, both these helmets are proof that this venerable helmet is still in use with Russian combat troops in the present day.
