Salt River Cultural Resources and SRPMIC held its second O’odham Piipaash Day Traditional Events with Cultural Resources on November 16 at the Accelerated Learning Academy Football Field; the day was filled with traditional games, tortilla making classes, and social singing and dancing. The day kicked off with a Toka scrimmage by the women of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. Huhugam Ki: Museum hosted Tortilla Making Classes and tortilla demo where visitors were treated with tortilla samples. In the afternoon the Community held family fun day with inflatables for children to jump on, carnival games, recreation provided free treats from their mobile concession stand; and Cultural Resources Department had several information tables sharing information on their traditional seeds and programs. Leading into the evening hours CRD staff lead traditional games such as Olla Races, Ko’omai Women’s Game and Gins/Kinse. The night ended with O’odham and Piipaash Social led by Brid Singing & Dancing by the River and the SRPMIC Traditional Dancers. Thank you to all those attended, we hope to see you all next fall.
