Comparing a the Marshall MX112R cabinet with an open-back vs closed-back. The goal is to hear the difference between these the cabinet with the back on and off, using the same amplifier with the same settings.
The MX112R cabinet has a single 12" Celestion Seventy-80 speaker in it. It's rated to 80 Watts. It's made of MDF and covered in tolex. It's quite a stout cabinet.
The amp is a Marshall DSL1 head. Tone knobs at 12 o'clock. The built-in attenuator is turned on. Using the classic gain channel, "clean" is on about 9 o'clock, and dirty is on about 4 o'clock.
Guitar is a Gibson SG standard with classic '57 humbuckers. All knobs on 10, using both bridge and neck pickups.
Audio recording made using a Blue Spark large-diaphragm condenser mic. A multi-band compressor was applied in post.
Am I great guitar player? No. I'm more of a gear person. :-) But you should get a feel for how the cabinet sounds with the back on and off. Thanks for watching!
