This is the second highest score in the game, as well as my second score above 1.4 million. Although it is not the number one score for this map, as Asthenic has 1.421 million with another team from before. We attempted to beat that, but still fell short by quite a lot – although it is a hard score to beat and this was still a good attempt for just one try. We got lucky with the bosses on Wave 40 and 50, but probably would have needed more of the easier bosses to get closer to 1.42+. But I'm still very happy with the score we got.
Previous highscore (1,386,347): • Gears of War 3 | Horde Insane | Blood Driv...
Some fun personal trivia:
– The four of us who got this are the only players who have more than one score above 1.4 million.
– I got both my 1.4 million scores with just four players.
– This is actually my first game ever with no deaths for the whole team. It's been close a few other times, but I've never actually had a game with no deaths until now.
– In both my 1.4 million games, I did actually not go down once. In fact, I barely even took any damage at all (I did a little bit in this game when I went to the windows to check what kinds of enemies were left at the end of some waves, although that doesn't really count since it's not necessary to do so).
31:23 Boss Wave 10: Reavers
1:16:56 Boss wave 20: Berserkers
2:21:05 Boss Wave 30: Lambent Zerker
3:32:57 Boss Wave 40: Reavers
4:42:31 Boss Wave 50: Gunkers
ABOUT PLAYING FOR HIGHSCORES IN GEARS OF WAR 3 HORDE
To get the highest possible scores (upper 1.3 to 1.4 million), it is not enough to just play on the hardest difficulty (insane). You also need to activate three hard mutators (which will make enemies regenerate health over time, only heal you when you are doing damage, as well as forcing every reload to be an active), spot as many enemies as possible and let someone else kill them (usually the Silverback-pilot), as well as down as many regular Locust once and let one of their friends pick them up before killing them (you cannot down Lambent and larger Locust). You should also die as few times as possible, since deaths reduce your score. If all players die in the same wave, it is game over.
This is why we play the game as we do, rather than just killing stuff randomly. It may look a bit odd at first, but it is very entertaining and challenging, as it requires a lot of individual skill and collective coordination.
